TUCSON, AZ (April 22, 2018) - For the third consecutive year and fifth time in program history No. 22 UNLV has won the MWC Championship. UNLV went from tied after day one to up by five following the second round before finishing 8-under to win by 11.
Leading the Rebels at the Olympic Course was medalist winner
Shintaro Ban. After not finishing better than tied 13th in his first three conference championships Ban recorded rounds of 68-67-65 to sprint away from the field tallying a 16-under showing a nine-stroke victory.
During Sunday's final round Ban birdied eight-times while bogeying just once on his way to a 7-under 65. Ban saved his best golf for late playing Nos. 9-16 in 6-under.
UNLV also received top-20 play from Jack Trent (12th; +2), Harry Hall (T13; +3) and Justin Kim (T13; +3).
The top-five of the team standings was rounded out by Colorado State (+3) in second, Nevada (+11) was third, Fresno State (+17) took fourth while Wyoming (+18) and New Mexico (+18) shared fifth.
Behind Ban in the medalist race were Grant Booth (Nevada) in second at 7-under, Sean Yu (San Jose State) and Galven Green (New Mexico) shared third at 2-under while four others were 1-under in fifth.
