U.S. Sr. Challenge: McMullen tops Whitney in playoff

Jerry McMullen of Indiana won the 25th U.S. Senior Challenge Individual Tournament in a five hole playoff over Cyrus Whitney

LOUISVILLE, KY (June 20, 2013) -- Jerry McMullen of Indiana won the 25th U.S. Senior Challenge Individual Tournament in a five hole playoff over Cyrus Whitney of Arizona at the Cardinal Club in Louisville, Ky. Both players shared the lead after Round 1 and finished regulation with identical rounds of 71-70-72--213. Happy Rakestraw took third place, one back of McMullen and Whitney. A strong field of 94 senior and super senior golfers played 54 holes in 84-86 degree weather with only moderate humidity and wind. Ted Smith of Indiana won by five over Bob Vidricksen of Salina, Kansas. Smith fired a 5 -under 67 on Thursday to prevail over a strong field of super seniors. Ted finished at 5-under par for the tournament. Next year's (2014) tournament will be held at the highly rated Black Diamond Ranch in Lecanto, FL, on June 2-4, 2014.
