U.S. Amateur: Jackson Koivun upsets co-medalist and one seed Blades Brown

Koivun defeated Brown 4 & 3 to advance to the Round of 16.

Jackson Koivun of Chapel Hills, N.C., defeated medalist and number one overall seed in match play Blades Brown 4 & 3 in the Round of 32 to advance to the Round of 16 at the U.S. Amateur at Cherry Hills Country Club in Cherry Hills Village, Colo.

Koivun entered match play as the No. 32 seed and defeated Dylan McDermott of Granite Bay, Calif., 1-up.

Koivun took an early lead after making a birdie on No. 4 to go 1-up. Brown answered immediately, making a birdie on No. 5 to get it back to even.

Brown then went 1-up on No. 7 after Koivun made a bogey.

From there, it was all Koivun.

He played the next four holes at 2-under while Brown played those four holes at 1-over to go from 1-up to 2-down.

Koivun made two pars on Nos. 14 and 15, while Brown made two bogeys to give Koivun the 4 & 3 win.

Brown was the youngest co-medalist in history, breaking a record set by the iconic Bobby Jones in 1920, who was 18.
