American representatives Julia Potter is even-par while Meghan Stasi is tied for 22nd at 6-over

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (January 20, 2017) -- At the midway point of the South American Women's Amateur Delfina Acosta of Argentina has joined Mexico's Isabella Fierro atop the leaderboard. Both players are 5-under and ahead of the rest of the field by four shots at Martindale Country Club. Fierro, the overnight leader, bogeyed the first hole before righting the ship on her way to a 1-under 71. Her first of four birdies came on the 6th hole but it was the back-to-back birdies on the 16th and 17th holes that salvaged the round. Fierro was cruising along at 1-under through 13 holes until she slipped up with 14th and 15th hole bogeys. Delfina Acosta, a senior at Miami, turned in the round of the week to reach the top of the leaderboard. Acosta was able to fire a 5-under 67 and overcome a four-stroke deficit at the start of the day. A bogey on No. 14 dropped Acosta to 2-under for the round but a trio of birdies to close pushed her to 5-under. Overall Acosta birdied seven-times and bogeyed twice. Paraguay's Sofia Garcia, the two-time defending champion, will begin the weekend in third place at 1-under and as the final player under-par. Seven players are even-par and tied for fourth and included in the group is American Julia Potter. The two-time U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur has paired consecutive rounds of even-par 72's. Potter got off to a fast start with 2nd and 3rd hole birdies, however in the middle of the round she struggled with four bogey's from Nos. 6-10. Birdies on Nos. 14 and 15 brought her back to level for the day. Fellow American and four-time U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur champion Meghan Stasi is 6-over and tied for 22nd.
