Turner wins by six at Florida Mid-Am Stroke Play

DELRAY BEACH, Fla. (Oct. 14, 2018) – Scott Turner took a four-shot lead into the final round of the Florida Mid-Amateur Stroke Play and went home on Sunday with another FSGA title. Turner posted a final-round 67 to win by six shots.

Turner, who hails from Stuart, Fla., was 12 under for the weekend at Seagate Country Club. He was 3 under through his first four holes in the final round and 5 under at the turn. He threw in two bogeys on the back nine – which was as many as he had had in his previous 45 holes. With a final-round 67, came out with plenty of shots to spare.

While Turner was polishing off his victory, Daniel Eggertson of Royal Palm Beach, Fla., was trying hard to catch him. Eggertson’s 7-under 65 was the round of the day. He started with a birdie at No. 1, followed with a bogey at No. 2, then aced the par-3 third hole. Three more birdies followed on the front nine. Still, Eggertson could only get it to 6 under for the tournament, which was still six shots behind Turner at 12 under.

For Turner, the Mid-Amateur represents his first FSGA title since winning the 2017 Florida Amateur Public Links. Turner was T-4 at that event earlier this summer, and came in T-26 at the Florida Amateur.

Kevin Johnson of Naples, Fla., was third at 5 under. His 3-under 69 in the final round was the only other sub-70 score on the board.

Gary Nicklaus, son of Jack Nicklaus, was even and tied for fourth with Matthew Marino of Miami Beach, Fla.
