Trible, Hartwiger dominate at Alabama Women's Championships

The Birmingham duo wrote storybook finishes in close wins

Taylor Trible of Birmingham claimed the 89th Alabama Women’s State Amateur Championship title, winning 1 up against Molly Brown Davidson of Birmingham at The Shoals in Muscle Shoals, Ala. on Thursday.

“I really don’t have any words,” Trible said. “My dad and I just started crying together. We had a great time together, I love him!”

The 17-year old has been on a roll this summer, adding the state championship to an early June win at the SJGT Lee Hodges Classic.

Meanwhile, Kathy Hartwiger, made an unforgettable comeback to the Alabama golf scene.

Birmingham's own won the third Alabama Women’s State Senior Match Play Championship with a 2 up victory against Theresa Mahlik of Madison.

“I’m trying to get back into competitive golf now, after not playing for a couple of years,” said the 10-time Alabama Women's Amateur champion. “I see this as a challenge between me and myself. This week was good, I feel better!”

Semifinals opened the morning of the Women’s Amateur, Davidson defeating Sophie Burks of Tallassee in 19 holes.

Trible won 1 up against Kelsey Carstens of Florence and entered her final match charged up.

Within the Senior Tournament Division, Kyung-Hwa “K” Theodoss of Hampton Cove and Barbee Bryant of Hoover went head-to-head in the final match. Bryant defeated Theodoss, 5 and 4.
