Tourinho, Harvey share 36-hole South American Amateur lead

Andre Tourinho of Brazil and Scott Harvey of the United States are at eight-under apiece and lead by three strokes

LIMA, Peru — Former Tulsa University golfer Andre Tourinho, of Brazil, and Scott Harvey, the 2014 U.S. Mid-Amateur winner from Greensboro, N.C., share the 36-hole lead at the South American Amateur Championship. Harvey held the first-round lead at six-under after a stellar 66, while Tourinho posted a five-under 67 on day two to draw even with Harvey at eight-under halfway through the 72-hole event. Two players of note shot up the leaderboard on Saturday at Lima Golf Club in Peru's capital city, including 2013 U.S. Amateur champion Mike McCoy of West Des Moines, Iowa. The 52-year-old perennial mid-amateur player carded 66 in the second round and now sits four back in a tie for seventh place. Andres Schonbaum of Argentina jumped into a tie for third place at five-under with his own 66. He is tied with three other players, including Jack Davidson of Wales, Blair Hamilton of Canada, and fellow countryman Matias Simaski. Ashley Chesters, of England and ranked third in the Golfweek/AmateurGolf.com World Rankings, used a 68 on Friday to get back into contention after an opening-round 74. The 2014 European Amateur champion is tied for 11th place and is six back.
