Top-seeded J.J. Wall wins San Antonio Match Play

Defeating the two-time defending champion in the championship match was J.J. Wall by a count of 3-and-2

FAIR OAKS, Texas — J.J. Wall was the No. 1 seed at the San Antonio Match Play, so it wasn't a surprise when he reached the championship match Sunday at Fair Oaks Ranch Golf & Country Club. But he found himself facing Danny Simmerman — the two-time defending champion — in the final match, making his quest to take home the title a lofty task. Wall prevailed, however, winning the final 3-and-2. Simmerman's path to his third straight final his a rough spot in the quarterfinals when he needed six extra holes to close out No. 2 seed J.J. Lindsey, and executed a 2-and-1 victory over Jared Cornish in the semifinals. Wall cruised through his matches leading up to Sunday's final, other than a one-up win over Austin Wylie in the semis.
