Till the standout player in the inaugural Friendship Cup

The Friendship Cup brought seniors, super seniors and legends to Niagara Falls in Canada for team and individual competition

Sam Till, Jr. (Fort Wayne, Ind.) was the standout player of the inaugural Friendship Cup, winning the Super Senior division by 13 shots and helping the U.S. sweep the three team competitions over the host Canada. The Friendship Cup brought seniors, super seniors and legends to Niagara Falls for individual and team play, with Honorary Captains Dave King representing the United States and Canadian-born Fred Silver representing Canada. The newest event on the senior schedule was played at the Ussher’s Creek course at Legends on the Niagara, designed by one of Canada's preeminent course designers, Thomas McBroom. Till was the only player in any of the three divisions to break par for the event, closing with a 3-under 69 for a 1-under 215 total, far ahead of runner-up Edward Turner (Richardson, Texas). Duke Delcher (Bluffton, S.C.) and Rokki Rogan (Ft. Myers, Fla.) tied for the low score in the Senior division, each shooting 6-over 222. Robbie Dew (living in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. but representing Canada) and Robert Rosen (Buffalo, N.Y.) shared third place. In the Legends division, Don Donatoni (Malvern, Pa.) shot 5-over 221 to win handily over runner-up Stephen Wilson. In the team competition, the United States prevailed in all three age groups, defeating Canada soundly in the Super Senior category while winning by a narrow margin of 5 strokes in the largest division for Senior players. The U.S. and Canada were tied after the first day of competition among the Legends, with the Americans pulling ahead by 6 shots in the end.
