The December Major: 21st St. Augustine Amateur Opens Registration for a Field That Keeps Getting Scarier

Registration opens Wednesday, Aug. 26 for the Dec. 4-6 event at St. Johns Golf Club — a 20-year WAGR stop that has quietly become one of the best fields on the amateur calendar, and the last real proving ground before the spring 2027 season.

Most of the golf world is packing up by the first weekend in December. The college season is on hold. The juniors are between events. The big amateur trophies have all been handed out. And that, strangely enough, is exactly why the St. Augustine Amateur has become one of the most interesting fields on the calendar.

On December 4-6, 2026, the tournament plays its 21st edition at St. Johns Golf Club in southern St. Johns County, Florida — and registration opens Wednesday, August 26. It's a World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) event, it's walking-only, it's a no-cut 54-hole grind, and every dollar it clears goes to First Tee – North Florida. It is also, quietly, a place where the next wave of college and PGA Tour talent keeps showing up before the rest of us know their names.
