Texas Medalist Series Gulf Coast #1: Wesley Walker registers wire-to-wire win

Walker used consistent rounds of 76-77 to win by four shots over the field

31-year-old Wesley Walker from Houston, Tex., shot 9-over 153, following rounds of 76-77, to register a four-shot win at the Texas Medalist Series Gulf Coast tournament held at Pearland Golf Club in Pearland, Tex.

Walker, a seasoned participant in the Mid-Am section of Texas, earned his spot in the 40th Texas Mid-Amateur by delivering an impressive 67 to win the medalist honors by a four-shot margin at the qualifier in Houston in August 2023.

Jack Byrd, from Montgomery, Tex., shot 13-over par, following his rounds of 77-80 to register a runner-up finish in the tournament.

In the Senior Division, Marshall Piper of Cypress, Tex., and Ron Byrd of The Woodlands, Tex., ended the tournament tied at 12-over par, compelling a playoff. Piper secured the title on the second playoff hole. Piper carded rounds of 76-80, while Byrd posted scores of 81-75.

Bob Kearney, hailing from Houston, Tex., secured a solo-third finish by shooting consistent rounds of 80-80, concluding the competition at 16-over par.
