Tailhade Cup: Argentina's Simaski extends lead

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina — Matias Simaski, of Argentina, continued his stellar play in his home country at the Tailhade Cup. His second-round 68 in Buenos Aires extended his lead to two shots as the team and individual event heads to Sunday's final round. After Thursday's opening round was suspended due to the threat of thunderstorms in the area, Simaski fired 69 at Los Lagartos Country Club for a one-stroke lead over Michael Harradine of Switzerland and Khaled Attieh. Two suspensions occured during the first round before play was finally halted. Fifteen countries are represented as play started Thursday before the weather ended play on the opening day. "The constant lightning prevented us from resuming the match after the second suspension," says Daniel Vizzolini, Director of Championships and Rules AAG. "We were in close consultation with various meteorological services. The situation never improved despite almost no rain until moments after the suspension." Play resumed Friday morning at 11:00 a.m. local time. Eric Banks of the defending team champion Canada moved into second place with a 68 of his own during the second round, and was one of six players tied for fourth place at 71 on Friday. Teaghan Gauche of South Africa and Anthony Quayle of Australia, who were both tied with Banks at 71, posted the same score again on Saturday, 69, and are three shots back in a tie for third place.
