Syracuse Post-Standard Amateur: Luke Hobika wins by two

Luke Hobika finished two clear of the field and won the Post-Standard Amateur

MARCELLUS, NY (June 11, 2016) -- After 72-holes of play over the span of four days on four different courses Luke Hobika was able to claim the 60th playing of the Syracuse Post-Standard Amateur. Hobika finished 8-over, two shots clear of two-time defending champion Kevin VandenBerg and Eric Hofsommer. On the final day of play at Tuscarora Golf Course, Hobika put together a solid even-par 71 tally. Hobika didn't do anything spectacular on the day and had just one birdie and one bogey, each coming on the front nine. In his previous three rounds Hobika put together scores of 73-72-77 at Cazenovia Country Club, Cortland Country Club and then Bellevue Country Club on Friday. "I was in great form today," Luke Hobika told syracuse.com following the round. "I mean, I played great. I'm not afraid to say it. I know you're not supposed to say it, but I played great. I had, like, two bad shots." Kevin VandenBerg, the two-time defending champion, attempted to bounce back on Saturday from a third round 81 and played well but needing a birdie on 18 VandenBerg bogeyed the final hole. In the end VandenBerg shot a two-over 73 in the final round and ended up tied for second with Eric Hofsommer at 10-over. Brad Monroe (+14) and Mike Mento (+15) rounded out the top-five. -Information provided by syracuse.com
