Surtani led the tournament from start to finish, totaling a 36-hole total of 6-under par 210 (68-72-70) on the par-72 layout. Surtani edged Ohio State's JonErik Alford and Indiana's Mitch Davis by three shots for the title.
Davis would take a one-shot lead with a birdie on 10, moving him to 6-under par, but a David double-bogey on 12 dropped him one off the pace. Surtani then went up three shots with just five holes to play with a birdie on 13, while Davis bogeyed. Surtani would par the remaining five holes for his first amateur victory.
Surtani's victory at the Northern Amateur continues a string of strong showings by Purdue players this summer. In June, Luke Prall captured the Indiana Amateur while Kent Hsiao won the Sizzler Amateur. Teammates Herman Sekne, Andrew Farraye and Benjamin Cai all qualified out of local qualifying into regional qualifying for the U.S. Open, and Peyton Snoeberger has qualified for the U.S. Amateur.
