After last year's inaugural Ojai Senior Cup brought a strong field of competitive senior golfers to California's Ojai Valley, word spread fast.
The host courses; the Gil Hanse-designed Soule Park G.C. and the classic George C. Thomas design at Ojai Valley Inn, are wonderful layouts in one of the state's most beautiful settings. No matter how the golf goes, it's a perfect way to spend the weekend.
The Second Annual Ojai Senior Cup saw players travel from all around the U.S. to compete, but one of California's top seniors, Dan Sullivan of Pasadena, kept the trophy close to home.
Sullivan won at 5 under with rounds of 66-71.
There was three-way tie for second at 2 under. That group included last year's champion, Tim Hogarth of Rustic Canyon G.C. as well as Loren Lopeman (Bear Creek) and Mark Miller (Los Angeles Royal Vista).
Chris Brauner of Austin, Texas finished tied with Kirk Stark of Rustic Canyon at 1-under 141 for the weekend.
The Net Division was also hotly contested, with Tommy Handojo of Golf Southern Cal edging Todd Innes and Mark Purdom by a single shot at 1-over 143.
After building such a strong field in just two years, tournament director Keith Brown is planning to continue the momentum for next year’s event. He is looking into adding a third round to make it a 54-hole championship.
