Stormo four shots ahead as final round of LNGA Amateur starts

So far, no one has been able to match Karoline Stormo at the Golf Club of Tennessee in Kingston Springs, Tenn. In fact, no one has really even come close. The Kent State player has grown her lead to four shots in the LNGA Amateur with just one round left to play in the 72-hole event.

Stormo logged her first score in the 70s in Wednesday’s third round, an even-par 71 that included two birdies and two bogeys. The Golf Club of Tennessee also hosted the U.S. Women’s Amateur last year, an event that Stormo didn’t play.

At 8 under, Stormo has a four-shot lead on the next-closest player, Florida State’s Amanda Doherty. The Brookhaven, Ga., native has increasingly figured out this layout, diving from 73 to 69 to a third-round 67. That latter included an ace on No. 4.

Doherty already owns one of the major women’s amateur titles from this year, having won the Sally Amateur back in January. She was invited to the Augusta National Women’s Amateur in April and made the cut.

Louisville player Lauren Hartlage is solo third at 3 under. Alexa Pano and Amary Avery, a 14- and 15-year-old who starred next to each other in the Netflix documentary “The Short Game” are both even par after three rounds and tied for sixth.

The group at even also includes Lauren Greenlief, a former U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur champion and a quarterfinalist from last year’s Women’s Amateur here.
