Steve Wilson wins U.S. Senior Challenge in playoff

LAS VEGAS, NV (June 9, 2016) -- Regulation wasn't enough but on the second extra hole Steve Wilson was able to outlast 36-hole leader Jack Slayton and win the U.S. Senior Challenge. Both players finished the final round at Spanish Trail Country Club 3-under, thus sending the tournament to extra holes. Wilson began the final round trailing Slayton by one shot before shooting an even-par 72 and earning his spot in the playoff. The final 54-hole scoring total for Wilson was 70-71-72--213. Slayton began the day at 4-under but dropped a shot with a 1-over 73 and fell back into a tie. During his 54-holes Slayton went 72-68-73--213. Wilson and Slayton were two of just four players to finish under-par with John Hull and Jonathan Valuck the other two. Hull and Valuck tied for third at 1-under while John P. Hornbeck finished 4-over to complete the top-five. In the Super Senior Division Wayne Peddy was the only player under-par on the final day and he finished 6-over to win by one. The U.S. Senior Team Challenge was won by the quartet of Mark Miller, Steve Wilson, Dan Bieber and Casey Boyns. They finished with a two-day score of 641 and 13 shots ahead of the second place team.
