Stanford returns to top at The Goodwin with record 17th win

Cardinals lift title for first time since 2019 as New Mexico’s Mesa Falleur edges Kihei Akina by one

No. 23 Stanford returned to the top at The Goodwin, posting 17-under 823 (269-280-274) to secure its 17th title at the event and first since 2019.

The Cardinal held off No. 35 UCLA, which finished runner-up at 13-under 827 (276-272-279), four shots back.

In the individual competition, New Mexico senior Mesa Falleur delivered a composed performance to claim medalist honours at 12-under 198 (67-65-66), edging BYU freshman Kihei Akina by one shot.

Falleur began the final round tied for second at 8-under 132, one stroke behind 36-hole leader Alejandro de Castro Piera, and closed with a 6-under 66 to secure the win.

De Castro Piera, who led after two rounds, finished T-6 at 6-under 204 following a final-round 73.

Akina, already a two-time winner in his freshman season, including last week’s Bridgestone Collegiate Invitational, posted rounds of 66-67-69 to finish runner-up at 11-under 199.

Stanford placed three players inside the top 20, led by sophomore Jay Leng, who finished T-3 at 7-under 203 (65-70-68). Dean Greyserman added a T-8 finish at 5-under 205 (71-66-68), while Nathan Wang placed T-19 at 2-under 208 (66-73-69).

Statistically, Stanford led the field in par-5 scoring (4.36) and recorded 171 pars over the 54-hole event, underlining a steady and controlled team performance.
