Southern Junior Amateur Championship underway University of Georgia G.C.

54-hole stroke play major begins in Athens with 156-player field across two age divisions

Neil Jolly of India remains the man to catch at the Southern Junior Championship after firing a remarkable opening-round 8-under 62 at the University of Georgia Golf Course. The 16-year-old followed a front-nine 32 with an even better back-nine 30 on Wednesday, highlighted by seven birdies and an eagle, to build a two-shot lead over Tommy Evans of West Virginia heading into the second round.

Weather became the story on Thursday as thunderstorms and heavy rain moved through the Athens area, preventing many players from completing their second rounds. Jolly was among those still waiting to begin play late in the day, while Evans had only completed two holes of his second round. Local forecasts called for widespread showers, thunderstorms, and periods of heavy rainfall across Athens, creating difficult conditions for tournament officials and competitors alike.
