Second-round 65 gives Newman narrow victory at Bergen County Amateur

Despite shooting an opening round 77, Dylan Newman fought back with a 65 on his second 18 to win by a single stroke

ROCKLEIGH, N.J. (Sept. 14, 2014) — In Sunday's Bergen County Amateur — a 36-hole championship played in one day — Dylan Newman, a former Iona College golfer from New Rochelle, N.Y., shot 77 in the opening 18. That score put him seven back of the leader Eric Lefante. But Newman sparked a furious comeback, shooting 65 in the afternoon round to upend the field and win by a single stroke. His 65 was the lowest score of the tournament by four shots. Lefante shot 74 in the second round and finished two shots behind Newman in a tie for third place. Finishing in second place was Steven Zychowski, who shot 72-71.
