SEC Match Play: Sargent, Auburn lead after Day One

Sargent leads the individual competition by three shots, while Auburn leads the team competition by two shots.

The number-one-ranked amateur in the world is making his presence felt once again.

Gordon Sargent of Vanderbilt, the 2022 NCAA individual champion, shot a two-round score of 13-under to lead by three shots in the individual competition over Brendan Valdes of Auburn, who is at 10-under.

Sargent shot a first-round 7-under 64 and a second-round 6-under 65 to shoot 13-under.

Through the two rounds, Sargent recorded 15 birdies, an eagle, two bogeys, and a double bogey.

Jackson Koivun of Auburn, John Driscoll of Arkansas, JM Butler of Auburn, and Phichaksn Maichon of Texas A&M are all tied in third place at 9-under.

2023 U.S. Amateur Champion Nick Dunlap of Alabama is T8 at 7-under, along with Caleb Surratt of Tennessee.

In the team competition, Auburn leads by two shots at 30-under. Auburn has three golfers in the top five (Koivun, Butler, Valdes).

Arkansas is in second place at 28-under, and Vanderbilt is in third place at 23-under. Texas A&M and Ole Miss are tied for fourth place at 20-under.
