After a slow start Scheffler got going with a birdie on No. 6, the first of three in a four hole span to reach 3-under for the front nine. Following the turn Scheffler reached 6-under with birdies on the 10th, 12th and 14th holes before dropping his only stroke of the day with a 16th hole bogey.
His birdie on No. 12 was one of the highlights of the day for Scheffler as his approach shot came to rest just inches away from the cup.
"I was just trying to get the ball in the fairway (today)," said now three-time individual winner Scottie Scheffler to Golf Channel Noah Begay III. "This course is very difficult but I was able to make a couple of birdies."
On the next hole Scheffler was able to right the ship with a par and then he sealed the deal with a closing hole tap-in birdie.
Well played, Scottie Scheffler. Well played!
