Sand Hollow Senior Amateur: Matt Lyons comes from behind to narrowly win the title

Lyons shot a final round 1-under 71 to erase a two-shot overnight deficit

Matt Lyons from Layton, Ut., shot 1-over 145 following his rounds of 74-71 to win the Sand Hollow Senior Amateur title by a narrow one-shot margin at Sand Hollow Resort in St. George, Ut.

Ron Davis, the overnight leader with a 72, added a 2-over 74 in the final round to register a runner-up finish at 2-over par.

Lyons entered the final round trailing Davis by two strokes and concluded with a remarkable 71, featuring an eagle on par-5 Hole No. 7. His performance also included a birdie-bogey finish on the last two holes, securing the win. Davis, requiring an eagle to force a playoff, could only manage a birdie on the final hole, ultimately finishing as the runner-up in the tournament.

In the Super Senior Flight, Michael Hacker, the 2017 Utah State Amateur Champion, carded rounds of 74-71 to win by a shot over Rick Lloyd and Todd Kartchner. The duo shot matching total scores of 2-over par to register a joint runner-up finish.

Hacker also won the Legends Flight by a six-shot margin over Robert Bachman. Bachman carded rounds of 74-77 to finish runner-up at 7-over par.
