Sand Hollow Amateur Championship: Ashton McArthur goes low to win by three shots

McArthur, a former All-Area Player of the Year, went wire-to-wire in an impressive outing

Utah State freshman Ashton McArthur from Rexburg, Idaho, shot 7-under 137 following his rounds of 68-69 to win the Sand Hollow Amateur Championship at Sand Hollow Resort in St. George, Ut.

Bowen Mauss from Draper, Ut., a 6A individual title winner in 2023 and Utah Tech sophomore Zach Felts shot matching totals of 4-under par to register a joint runner-up finish at the tournament. Mauss carded rounds of 71-69 and Felts 69-71.

McArthur’s rounds of 68-69 kept him far from the field for most part of the time during the tournament for an easy wire-to-wire title to start his 2024 season.

Previously at Madison High School, McArthur not only helped the Bobcats win the district title but was also named the All-Area Player of the Year.

In First Flight, Jordan Paulson carded rounds of 72-75 to win the section at a total score of 3-over.

In Second Flight, Austin Sorensen shot 11-over par to win by a one-shot margin over the duo of Wil Bangerter and Jace Seaman who both carded matching 12-over to finish joint second.
