Sacramento State wins Pacific Invitational by two

STOCKTON, Calif. — Sacramento State won the Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational on Saturday after being propelled into first place during a spectacular second round. The Hornets fired 13-under on day two of the 54-hole collegiate tournament to overtake first-round leaders Long Beach State. Sac State held off the 49ers during the final round to secure a two-shot win. Taylor Knoll of Sac State carded 63 during the Hornets' stellar second round — a score which turned out to be the lowest individual round of the tournament by four. His 69 on Saturday helped in recovering from a first-round 78 in order to finish a stroke behind individual champion David Kim of UC Irvine. The 63 for Knoll was a career-best, and aided in Sac State's first team win of the season. The score was also the second lowest 18-hole round in school history. The Hornets also received solid play from Aaron Beverly, who at 1-over par 214, tied for fifth place. Robert Parden tied for 12th while Owen Taylor tied for 20th. Runners-up Long Beach State were led by Daniel Chian, who tied for fifth with Beverly at 214, while Kevin Lee took 10th place at 217.
