Rising Hawaii sophomore Anson Cabello wins Kauai Amateur

Cabello shot a second round tournament best 8-under 64 to pull away from the field and win the championship by three shots

Anson Cabello, a rising sophomore at Hawaii University, shot 6-under to win the 2024 7th annual Kauai Amateur Championship at Wailua Golf Course in Lihue, Haw.

Cabello won by three shots after being propelled into the lead after a second-round bogey-free 8-under 64 with six birdies and an eagle. Cabello shot rounds of 73-64-73, and his second round was the best round in the tournament by four shots.

Tyler Ogawa finished in solo second place at 3-under, and Casey Watabu finished in solo third place at 1-under. Kolbe Irei finished in solo fourth place at 1-over, and Dane Watanabe finished in solo fifth place at 2-over.

As a freshman at Hawaii, he competed in five tournaments and finished with a 75.80 scoring average.

In the Senior Championship Division, Jonathan Ota finished in the top spot, recording rounds of 70-72-77 to finish 3-over and win by three shots over the field.

Mark Takahama finished in solo second place at 6-over, and Michael Kawate finished in solo third place at 10-over.

In the Women's Gross Division, the Takai sisters swept the championship, with Alexa Takai winning at 1-over, and older sisters Madison and Victoria finishing second and third at 5-over and 8-over, respectively.
