Randy Hicken wins Utah Senior Amateur in Playoff

Vaulted by the only under-par round of the day Randy Hicken won the Utah Senior Amateur at Logan Golf and Country Club

LOGAN, UT (August 26, 2016) -- Randy Hicken fired a 2-under 68 to reach even-par and then won the Utah Senior Amateur in a playoff over Steve Poulson. Poulson was the only player to begin final round play at Logan Golf and Country Club under-par but he fired a 1-over 71 opening the day for Hicken. Beginning the day 2-over and three behind Hicken started his round with a bogey before turning things around with birdies on every other hole, beginning with the 3rd and ending on the 9th. The 3-under 33 front nine brought Hicken to 1-under. Early on the back nine Hicken was unable to keep the momentum going as he bogeyed the 10th and 14th holes before birdieing the 16th to reach even-par for good. Now with Poulson playing in the group behind him Hicken had to await his fate. After double-bogeying the 13th to fall to 2-over Poulson had to battle back just to force a playoff and he did so with birdies on the 16th and 18th holes. With the players tied at the end of 54-holes of play the two went to a playoff where Hicken emerged. First round leader Brett Sampson finished third at 1-over, Dana Nelson was 4-over in fourth while Robert Underwood was 7-over in fifth. In the Super Senior Division Doug Marriott bested Steven Brinton by four-strokes for the title. The Net Division was won by Jon Norton. 36-Hole Recap Steven Poulson is 1-under and the lone play under-par after two rounds at the Utah Senior Amateur. Poulson shot a first round 1-over 71 at Logan Golf and Country Club before coming back with a 2-under 68 on Friday. Following an even-par front nine with a birdie and a bogey Poulson birdied three of the first four holes on the back side with a bogey mixed in to reach 1-under. Brett Sampson began the day 5-under and leading the field after a 5-under day one but he struggled in the second round with a 5-over 70 to return to even-par. Despite the struggles Sampson is in second place and only one-stroke off the pace. Dana Nelson is third at 1-over, Randy Hicken is fourth at 2-over while Jon Norton is in fifth at 3-over.
