Purdue Fall Invitational: Indiana comes from behind to secure the win

The Hoosiers claims their second title in the events history, while defending champion Purdue settles for fourth

The Indiana Hoosiers men's golf team delivered a commanding performance to win the Purdue Fall Invitational, finishing at 14-under 850 after consistent rounds of 285-280-285 at the Kampen-Cosler Golf Course in West Lafayette, Indiana. Their four-stroke triumph secured their second title in the event's brief history, having previously won in 2021.

The Hoosiers entered the final round at 11-under leading by two-strokes over Miami and finished with a cumulative score of 285 against Miami’s 287 to emerge victorious. Host team Purdue, the defending champions, finished fourth after rounds of 296-285-292 left them at 9-over for the tournament.

Individually, Indiana had three players place in the top 10. Redshirt junior Clay Merchant led the way, tying for runner-up at 5-under with rounds of 77-65-69, sharing second place with Wisconsin’s Jacob Beckman, who shot 75-67-69. Sophomore Nick Piesen finished fourth at 4-under (73-69-70), while Alec Cesare’s rounds of 70-74-71 secured him a T-10 finish at 1-under.

Miami University’s Michael Weber claimed individual honors with a wire-to-wire win, carding rounds of 72-66-70 for an 8-under total, securing a three-stroke victory. His stellar play also guided Miami to a runner-up team finish at 10-under, four strokes behind Indiana.

Statistically, the Hoosiers dominated the field, leading in scoring on both Par-3s (3.10) and Par-4s (3.99), while also tallying the most pars with 186.
