Pros, Senior Ams win the Hudson Cup Matches

After the ams won last year for just the 3rd time in 38 years, the pros recaptured the Cup; but the senior ams won the Senior Cup

PORTLAND, OR (October 20, 2017) - The professionals won the 69th Hudson Cup Matches at Columbia-Edgewater Country, holding off the amateur team by a 12½-7½ score. Last year, the amateurs won the Hudson Cup for only the third time in 38 years of the competition, but the pros rebounded this year, grabbing the early momentum and never letting the amateurs back in it. In the opening Foursomes session, the pros took a commanding 4½-½ lead. The amateurs trimmed a point off of that lead in the Four-Ball session, winning it 3-2, but still trailed by three points heading into the 10 singles matches. The amateurs needed to win 7 of 10 points to win, but instead lost the Singles 6-4. Arthur Kim (Tigard, OR) and Aaron Whalen (Ephrata, WA) were the high point earners for the amateur team, teaming up to win their Four-Ball match and then each winning his singles match. In the 26th Senior Hudson Cup, the amateurs beat the professionals by an 11-9 score. The matches were tight throughout. The amateurs took a 3½-1½ lead after the Foursomes, but saw the pros tie it up after winning the Four-Ball matches by the same margin. All tied going into Singles, the amateurs took the session 6-4 to take the Cup. Brad Karns, Randy Mahar, Bob Harrington, Pat O'Donnell, and Paul Houvenar all won singles matches for the victorious senior amateur team. The Charles Congdon Award went to Arthur Kim (voted on by the professional team) and the Larry Lamberger Award was presented to John Cassidy (voted on by the amateur team). In the Senior Matches, The Bill Eggers Award was presented to Erik Hanson (voted on by the senior professional team) while Steve Bowen was bestowed the Bob McKendrick Award (voted on by the senior amateur team).
