Pepperdine is out in front at the Albuquerque Regional

Leading the way in the medalist chase is Laura Kowohl of NC State

ALBUQUERQUE, NM (May 8, 2017) - Pepperdine is the only team under-par and they are leading the Albuquerque Regional by three-strokes. Currently 1-under-par the Waves were led by Tatiana Wijaya who is in second place after one round of play at the UNM South Championship Course. Tatiana Wijaya turned in a 2-under-par round and she will begin the second day one shot off the medalist pace. Wijaya started her round birdie, bogey and after a run of pars she birdied Nos. 10 and 11 back-to-back before parring to the house. Two other members of the Pepperdine lineup --Hira Naveed and Patricia Wong-- are tied for fourth after even-par 72's while Momoka Kobori is tied for 14th at 1-over. Leading the way in the medalist chase is Laura Kowohl of NC State. Kowohl had a seesaw round with seven birdies and four bogeys. She started her round with consecutive birdies before giving a pair of shots back with bogeys on each of the next two holes. Three birdie from Nos. 6-9 followed to push Kowohl into the red for good. Behind Kowohl comes Wijaya in second place, Albane Valenzuela (Stanford) is in third at 1-under while 10 others are sharing fourth at even-par. From each regional six teams will advance to the NCAA Championships. Outside of Pepperdine the top-six currently includes Stanford (+2) in second place, USC (+7), California (+7) and Washington (+7) are tied for third while Campbell (+9) and Duke (+9) are sharing sixth.
