You never know where Alexa Pano will turn up these days. Weeks after qualifying for the U.S. Women’s Open, Pano won the Scott Robertson Memorial. In typical Pano fashion, rounds of 73-67-65 got her to 8 under, and seven shots ahead of the next closest player.
Pano had one bogey over her final 36 holes at Roanoke (Va.) Country Club. It was hard for the field to match.
Annabelle Fuller, an IMG Academy student from England, finished second at 1 under. Fuller had rounds of 75-66-71.
Both Pano and Fuller played the Augusta National Women’s Amateur last month. Neither made the 36-hole cut.
Therese Warner from Kennewick, Wash., finished solo third at 1 over, and Alyssa Montgomery of Knoxville, Tenn., was fourth another two shots back.
Megha Ganne was fifth. The New Jersey teenager was also at Augusta National last month, but for the Drive, Chip and Putt finals instead of the ANWA. Ganne is a four-time finalist, and in two weeks will join Pano at the U.S. Women’s Open at the Country Club of Charleston. Both will be making their debut in the event after making it through sectional qualifying.
In the boys division, Michael Brennan of Leesburg, Va., went 12 under with rounds of 67-75-79 and won by eight shots over Charlotte’s Jack Heath. Brennan won the Middle Atlantic Amateur each of the past two years.
Interestingly, both Pano and Brennan won the Dustin Johnson World Junior in 2018.
