Maria J. Uribe of Colombia, the seasoned player on the LPGA Tour and a 2007 U.S. Women’s Amateur winner, scored 10-under 278 following her rounds of 69-73-68-68 to finish as the runners-up for a silver medal in the competition.
Uribe posted the lowest round of the day, 4-under 68, in an attempt to cover the gap between her and Garcia. Nevertheless, she still found herself trailing Garcia by four strokes. Garcia secured victory by posting an even-par round of 72, to complete her wire-to-wire victory to win the gold medal.
The win also marked her second medal of the tournament, following her silver in the mixed event in Peru in 2019.
Alena Sharp, a two-time winner on the Epson Tour, carded rounds of 67-73-68-68 to finish third at 7-under 281 for a silver medal in the competition.
The women’s section saw active participation from top-ranked amateur golfers including 28th-ranked Anna Davis and 53rd-ranked Rachel Heck too.
The 2022 Augusta National Women’s Amateur winner, Davis, shot 2-over 290 following her rounds of 73-74-68-75 to register a seventh-place finish in the tournament. Meanwhile, Heck, shot 8-over 296 with her rounds of 78-70-71-77 for a 14th place finish in the competition.
