Oro Valley Senior Amateur: John Bearrie finishes two shots clear of the field to win

Bearrie was the only golfer to shoot under-par for the tournament

John Bearrie, hailing from Morana, Ariz., clinched victory at the Oro Valley Senior Amateur at The Views Golf Club in Oro Valley, Ariz., shooting an impressive 1-under 143 with rounds of 73 and 70.

The 2012 Texas Player of the Year maintained a two-stroke lead over the competition to secure the trophy. Harry Ferguson of Tucson, Ariz., finished in solo second place and posted a 1-over with rounds of 70 and 75 in the tournament.

Bearrie entered the final round in third place, trailing Ferguson by three strokes. Ferguson had carded a tournament-low of 70 to secure the lead in the opening round. In the final round, Bearrie posted a score of 70, including four birdies, three of which were on his final nine.

In contrast, Ferguson faced challenges on the front nine, but a strong back-nine performance included consecutive birdies on Holes 15 and 16, providing a glimmer of hope. However, Bearrie had already established control over the field.

Scott Smith from Tucson, Ariz., finished third at 3-over 147.

In the Blue Tees section, Kevin Seiben of Tucson, Ariz., secured victory with a total score of 6-over 150. Meanwhile, Brad Starr from Oro Valley and Kevin Sullivan from Ponte Vedra, Fla., finished as joint runners-up, both posting scores of 10-over.
