Oregon State wins Lexus Golf Classic

FRESNO, Calif. - The Oregon State men's golf team played through inclement weather at the Fresno State Lexus Classic on Tuesday and held on to capture the 35th team title in school history and its second title of the season. Senior Casey King shot a team-best 1-over 73 on Tuesday to move up the leader board and tie teammate senior Jonnie Motomochi for 12th place. King finished with a 2-over 218 (74-71-73) and Motomochi carded a 2-over 218 (71-71-76) at the par-72, 6,765-yard Fort Washington Country Club. The Beavers shot a 20-over 380 on Tuesday but had built an eight-stroke lead after 36 holes on Monday and held on for the win with a 7-over 355-352-380--1087 at the two-day, 54-hole tournament that featured 16 teams. Washington State finished second (13-over 1,093), San Diego was third (16-over 1,096), Pacific finished fourth (19-over 1,099) and Arizona rounded out the top-five (20-over 1,100). Alex Ching of the University of San Diego shoots a second 69 to take medalist honors with a 7-under-par 209 (71-69-69). Second went to Alex Edfort of Pacific at 231 (70-70-73) and Jake Johnson of Sacramento State took third at 214 (71-69-74.)
