SEA ISLAND, GA (February 6, 2017) -- Jones Cup Invitational winner Braden Thornberry wasn't invited to the Walker Cup practice session last December but that doesn't mean he won't be a part of the final roster.
"Whether someone made the practice squad or not has no bearing on whether he will be on the final roster," Walker Cup Captain Spider Miller told Global Golf Post.
"Those players were chosen based on how I saw things at that point in time, and the final roster will be picked on how I see things in August. There is a lot of golf to be played between now and then."
There certainly is plenty of golf left to be played, however as of right now there may be nobody playing better than Thornberry and he has caught the eye of Miller.
“It’d be an honor to play on the (Walker Cup team) for sure,” the Ole Miss sophomore told Golfweek after his win at the Jones Cup.
Late in his freshman year Thornberry began to find his grove picking up two late victories, setting the stage for his three win fall season. Thornberry also led all of NCAA Division I players in scoring average at 68.87.
