Amateurs Danny Ochoa and Richard Kim sit in a tie for 5th and are five shots off the lead at the California State Open

BEAUMONT, Calif. (July 24, 2015) – The 116th California State Open has reached the 54-hole mark at Morongo Golf Club in Beaumont, Calif. Amateurs Danny Ochoa and Richard Kim are holding their own in the field of mostly professionals. Both players sit in a tie for 5th place at 11-under par, five shots back of the lead. Ochoa, a member of the University of Southern California golf team and Rancho Sante Fe, Calif. resident, shot the low round of the day Friday and tied for the tournament low with a bogey-free 65. He carded an impressive three consecutive threes on holes 12-14 and finished strong with a birdie on the difficult par-4 18th. Kim, a member of the California State Northridge squad and Beverly Hills, Calif. resident, has shot in the 60’s in each of his rounds, including an opening round 67. Kim and Ochoa will tee off just after 8am local time tomorrow and look to post a low number to threaten the leaders.
