New York Junior Amateur underway at The Cavalry Club

Two-day championship returns to Central New York for annual test of state's top junior talent

MANLIUS, N.Y. — The 2026 New York State Boys’ & Girls’ 18U Junior Championship opened Monday at Cavalry Club, with a pair of players setting the pace at 5-under 67 and each holding a one-shot lead heading into Tuesday’s closing round.

In the boys’ division, Samuel Gao, out of Youth On Course – MGA, posted the low round of the day. He sits one clear of Ty Monroe (Rip Van Winkle Country Club) and Josh Yan (Trump National GC Hudson Valley), who share second at 4-under 68. A three-way tie follows at 3-under 69 among Kai Chiarenza (Edison Club), Reid Wilson (Oak Hill Country Club) and Brayden Sentz (Leatherstocking Golf Course).
