Nebraska Amateur: Andy Sajevic claims his fourth title

Happy Hollow Country Club has lived up to its name for Andy Sajevic. Winning his first Nebraska State Amateur title at the club in 2010, the former North Carolina Tarheel added his name to the trophy for the fourth time on Thursday. Holding the 36-hole lead, the Fremont, Nebraska native stumbled down the stretch in the third round with a pair of bogeys, giving the 54-hole lead to Southeastern Community College head coach Calvin Freeman. In Thursday’s final round, scoring was hard to come by as windy conditions and final round pin locations made Happy Hollow tougher than the first three days. Posting a 1-over-par 72, Sajevic was able to tread water as Freeman and others faltered in the breeze. “With 72-holes, you know it’s going to be a marathon,” the 29-year-old told the Nebraska Golf Association. “I hit it well and made some putts when I needed to.” Staying bogey-free through 16 holes, Sajevic was 1-under before closing the tournament with back-to-back bogeys. Although not finishing in the best fashion, he picked up the win with a 3-under 281 total and joins Alex Schaake, Rod Bliss Jr., Sam Reynolds, and Bob Astleford on the shortlist of four-time Nebraska Amateur winners. Freeman carded a final-round 76 (284), finishing runner-up to Sajevic just as he did in 2013. University of Nebraska's Tom Westenberger took home a third-place finish at 2-over-par (286). Iowa Western sophomore Grant Jabenis snagged fourth place at 3-over (287).
