Merced County: Nick Webb gets the win

Former USC golfer Nick Webb, despite a 76 on Sunday, claimed a one-shot win at Merced Golf & Country Club

MERCED, Calif. — Nick Webb, who played collegiately for USC in the late 1990s, shot three-over 147 at Merced Golf & Country Club to win the Merced County Amateur. The Turlock native opened with 71 on Saturday before a 76 allowed him to squeak by with victory on Sunday afternoon. Colby Thomason of Kings finished in second place at 148, also shooting a final-round 76, while Barrett Mclaughlin took third place. Mclaughlin, along with Webb and AJ Borges, were first-round co-leaders at 71. Mclaughlin's 78 on Sunday pushed him back to third while Borges posted 80 finished in a five-way tie for fifth place. In the Senior division, Ken Noonan outlasted Terry Foreman by a stroke. Noonan fired rounds of 72 and 73 while Foreman opened with 71 and closed with 75. Foreman was a the first-round co-leader with James Camaione by two shots. Camaione tied for eighth place after shooting 78 on Sunday.
