FORT MEYERS, FL (October 30, 2016) -- Matt Leiti combined a pair of under-par rounds to finish 4-under and nine-strokes in front of the rest of the Southwest Florida Men's Amateur field. The nine-stroke win was the largest in the five decade history of the event.
In the first round round at Eastwood Golf Course the 21-year-old fired a 3-under 69 that included five birdies and three bogeys. During a windy final round at Fort Meyers Country Club Leiti carded a 1-under 69 with five birdies and four bogeys.
“I had two good days. I don’t think I’ve ever played better,” Leiti told the Naples Daily News. “I had a blast today and working on my irons last week paid off.”
James Marcelak finished a distant second at 5-over, Jack Hernandez was third at 8-over, Brad Harmer was fourth at 9-over while three others shared fifth.
