CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. (Dec. 18, 2014) — Mathilda Cappeliez of France won a three-hole playoff over another French player, Justine Dreher, to capture the 2014 Dixie Women's Amateur.
Dreher held the 54-hole lead but was unable to continue her second and third round magic (she posted 69-68 to lead by two heading into the final round).
On Thursday in the final round, she opened the door for Cappeliez, an accomplished amateur who made the cut in the 2014 U.S. Women's Open. Cappeliez' round of 4-under 68 gave her a share of first place, and the score was settled in a playoff, which Cappeliez eventually won with a birdie on the third hole.
Cappeliez, who is just 16, tied for 59th place after making the cut at this year's U.S. Women's Open. Dreher, a senior at the University of South Carolina, reached the quarterfinals at the 2013 Ladies British Amateur.
Elise Bradley of Mandeville, La. tied for third place at 286 — two shots back of Cappeliez and Dreher — along with Daniela Darquea of Quito, Ecuador. Bradley is a junior at LSU while Darquea is a sophomore at the University of Miami.
