LIVE SCORING: Pacific Coast Amateur

The sixth event in the 2023 Elite Amateur Golf Series starts July 25 in British Columbia, visiting Canada for the first time

West Vancouver, B.C. – Capilano Golf and Country Club in West Vancouver, B.C. (Canada), will host many of the top amateur golfers in the world this week for the 56th Pacific Coast Amateur Championship.

Hosted by British Columbia Golf, the championship will be played from July 25-28, 2023. This marks the third time the championship has been held at Capilano Golf and Country Club, with the club also hosting in 2003 and 2013.

The Pacific Coast Amateur is one of seven events that make up the Elite Amateur Golf Series (EAGS), in which players earn World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) points and compete for the Elite Amateur Cup. Top finishers earn exemptions into USGA Championships, PGA TOUR events, and Korn Ferry Tour events.

Recent Pacific Coast champions include Will Zalatoris (2016), Doug Ghim (2017), Isaiah Salinda (2018), Quade Cummins (2019), Devon Bling (2021), and James Leow (2022). Other past champions that went on to have success on the PGA TOUR include Aaron Wise, Andrew Putnam, Jason Gore, Billy Mayfair, and Ben Crane, among others.

Notable players in this year’s elite field include Kazuma Kobori of Christchurch, New Zealand. Kobori is currently ranked fifth in the Elite Amateur Cup standings. Kobori won the 2023 Australian Amateur Championship and is coming off of a T7 finish at the Southern Amateur last week.

Jeffrey Guan of Sydney, Australia held the 36-hole lead and finished T3 in last week’s Southern Amateur. He is a member of the Golf NSW High-Performance Squad.

Davis Bryant of Aurora, Col., is currently ranked seventh in the Elite Amateur Cup standings. Bryant, who recently completed his final season on the Colorado State University men’s golf team, finished T4 at the Northeast Amateur and made the North & South Amateur quarterfinals.

Petr Hruby of Pilsen, Czech Republic won the 2023 R.E.L. Invitational and finished top 20 at the NCAA Auburn Regional.

Neal Shipley of Pittsburgh, Penn., finished runner-up in both the Sunnehanna Amateur and the Trans-Mississippi Amateur Championship. Shipley had five top-20 finishes and one top-10 during the 2022-23 collegiate season as a member of the Ohio State University men’s golf team. He was named a 2023 PING All-America Honorable Mention.

“The Pacific Coast Amateur Championship has a long-standing tradition of combining strong competition and camaraderie among some of the most talented amateur golfers in the world,” said Stephen Butterfield, the club’s President. “The tournament and Capilano share a rich history and we are honored to again host such a renowned event.”
