Woulfe sprinkled five birdies around his first round. Over the final 36 holes he was only able to muster up two more birdies, one in each round. It was enough to hold off the field.
The drama dissipated quickly when Yandell shot 41 on the front nine and feel behind Woulfe by six shots. Finishing in third place thanks to an impressive 68 was Larry Clark from Kingston, Ga.
A nine-time FSGA Senior Player of the Year who plays out of Lago Mar Country Club in Plantation, Fla., -- not to be confused with Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach -- Woulfe has competed in 26 USGA championships and 12 British Senior Amateur championships and in 1992, defeated a 16-year old Tiger Woods in the semifinals of the 1992 Dixie Amateur, 4 and 3.
In the grand master division, Don Marsh won by an impressive eleven shots. He carded rounds of 75-70-71 to finish at even par. His two under par rounds were the only ones shot by anyone in his division, and the next best score in the field was a 73 from Robbie Thompson who couldn't overcome an opening round 80.
The next Society of Seniors event will be the Jack Hesler Tournament from July 18-21 at the Belterra Casino Resort in Florence, Ind.
