Krause leads Rector entering final round of SCGA Mid-Amateur

Damon Krause has a slim lead on a crowded SCGA Mid-Am leaderboard entering the final round

Damon Krause is tough to beat in his native Los Angeles. The reigning L.A. City champion is trying to extend that statement south to Long Beach. After 36 holes of the SCGA Mid-Amateur at Virginia Country Club, Krause has a one-shot lead.

Krause remains atop the leaderboard on the strength of an opening 1-under 69. Krause backed up that opening round with a 2-over 72, and at 1 over total, leads AmateurGolf.com’s own Kyle Rector by a shot.

Rector, of San Diego, opened with 70. He pieced together a clean card on Monday, recovering from a double-bogey at No. 6 with 11 closing pars for a follow-up 72. He was runner-up at this event in 2017.

Another San Diego resident, Ryan Wilkins, is at 3 over, and will round out the last group in Tuesday’s final round. Wilkins has posted rounds of 70-73.

Six players are tied for fourth at 4 over. Corby Segal, the 2016 SCGA Mid-Am winner, is T-9, just four shots off the pace.
