SAN GERONIMO, Calif. — Evan Knight of Novato and Ken Gosselin are ahead in their respective divisions after the first round at the Marin County Amateur Championship.
Knight, a sophomore at UC Davis who recently won in a playoff at the Sacramento City Championship, shot 71 at San Geronimo Golf Course to lead Larry Salk of San Anselmo by a stroke in the Championship division.
Ben Peters and Steven Wight are three back in a tie for third place after opening-round 74s.
Gosselin, in the Senior division, posted rounds of 36 and 36 to give him a two shot advantage entering Sunday over Mark Sowlakis, and by three over Dale Bouguennec, Mike Parnow, and Steve Donnelly.
