Sean Knapp when it comes to collecting Western Pennsylvania golf titles. Knapp won the WPGA Senior Amateur Tuesday at Allegheny Country Club after prevailing over Edward Podufal in a playoff.
Knapp, representing Pittsburgh National Golf Club, and Podufal, who plays out of the Kahkwa Club, tied at 7 over after identical rounds of 75-72 in regulation. But after one hole of sudden death, it was Knapp on top.
This marks the first time that Knapp, 56, has won the WPGA Senior, but it joins a long list of other Pennsylvania golf titles on Knapp’s resume. He has won the Western Pennsylvania Amateur eight times over a span of 30 years. His first title was in 1988, and Knapp won his latest title in August. He is also a nine-time Western Pennsylvania Mid-Amateur champion and perhaps most prestigiously, won the U.S. Senior Amateur last summer in his first year of eligibility.
David Brown was third, and fell one shot out of the playoff at 8 over. An opening 73 had Brown in the lead to start the tournament.
Bob Crnjarich and Ira Handler tied for fourth at 13 over.
