Kiara Romero breaks Oregon record with fifth career win at Chevron Collegiate

World No. 1 amateur claims medalist honors as Oregon finishes runner-up in Houston

Kiara Romero added her name to Oregon history again on Tuesday.

The world’s No. 1 ranked amateur captured her fifth collegiate title Tuesday at the Chevron Collegiate at the Golf Club of Houston, breaking the program record for career individual wins and further cementing her dominance at the college level.

Romero closed with a steady 3-under 69 to finish at 11-under 205 (66-70-69), winning by four shots. She entered the final round with a one-shot lead and wasted little time asserting control, making birdies at Nos. 3 and 4 before playing a composed back nine that included a closing birdie at the 18th to seal the title.

The victory moves her past Kendra Little for the most wins in Oregon history and marks her first of the season. Romero led the field with 18 birdies for the week and has now finished inside the top three in five of six starts this year.

This latest triumph adds to Romero's already decorated résumé. Her victories include the Annika Intercollegiate in September 2023, the San Diego State Classic in February 2024, the Big Ten Championship in April 2025, and the NCAA Gold Canyon Regional in May 2025. Before her collegiate success, she captured the 2023 U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship, announcing herself as one of the brightest young stars in the amateur game.

Behind Romero, No. 3 Oregon shot a final-round 4-under 284 to finish runner-up at 12-under following rounds of 280-288-284.

In the team race, North Carolina won by six shots at 18-under 846 after rounds of 284-277-285. Baylor finished third at 11-under, posting 279-287-287.

North Carolina placed four players inside the top-20, led by sophomore Helen Yeung, who finished T-2 at 7-under (70-68-71), and senior Megan Streicher finished T-4 at 6-under (71-69-70). Sophomore Marie Prats-Rigual finished T-11th at 2-under (72-69-73), while junior Reagan Southerland was T-20th at even-par (73-71-72).
