Kephart captures Colo. Springs City

Alex Kephart took advantage of second-round leader Cole Miller's 79 on Monday to win the 2013 Colorado Springs City Championship

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Sept. 2, 2013) — Alex Kephart, a recent U.S. Mid-Amateur qualifier, shot 67-70 on Sunday and Monday to rise up the leaderboard and capture the 2013 Colorado Springs City Championship by one shot. Labor Day didn't quite go how Cole Miller planned it. Taking a stroke lead into Monday's round, the high school senior watched his chances of winning slip away as he shot a seven-over par 79 at Valley Hi Golf Course. Miller dropped into sixth place. Coming in second place was Steve Galko. His 71 on Monday moved him into the second place slot. Another big mover on the final day was Grant Rogers, who shot 68 — the lowest round of the day. Kephart, a native of Colorado Springs, was medalist at U.S. Mid-Am qualifying at Commonground Golf Course in Aurora with a 67, and will head to Birmingham in October for the championship.
