Judith Kyrinis added another chapter to her decorated amateur career, defeating Tina Papatolis in a two-hole playoff to win the Canadian Women’s Senior Championship at Pine Hills Golf Club in Rocky Mountain House, AB.
Kyrinis of Thornhill, ON, closed with a 75 to finish at 5-over 224 (78-71-75), tied with Papatolis of Issaquah, WA, who also shot 75 in the final round.
The victory gave the 62-year-old Kyrinis her seventh Canadian national championship and third Senior title, following victories in 2016 and 2019. She has also won four Canadian Women’s Mid-Amateur titles, in 2016, 2019, 2023 and 2025.
Senior Championship
Kyrinis and Papatolis began the final round tied at 3-over, but Kyrinis struggled early and fell four shots behind after playing her first four holes in 4-over.
A birdie at No. 5 started the recovery, although Papatolis still held a three-shot advantage at the turn.
The gap began to disappear on the back nine. After Papatolis bogeyed Nos. 10 and 12, Kyrinis birdied the 13th and added another at No. 16 to pull even at 5-over. Both parred the final two holes to force a playoff.
Kyrinis kept the championship alive by getting up and down and converting a six-foot par putt on the first extra hole. On the second, she reached the green in two and two-putted for par after Papatolis missed her par attempt.
Diane Irvin of Pacific Palisades, CA, finished third at 7-over 226, while four-time champion Mary-Ann Hayward of St. Thomas, ON, took fourth at 8-over 227. Andrea Kosa of Calgary, AB, was fifth at 9-over.
Super Senior Championship
Kyrinis also captured her first Super Senior title, completing a sweep of the individual divisions.
Irvin finished runner-up at 7-over, one ahead of Hayward. Terrill Samuel of Etobicoke, ON, placed fourth at 14-over, with Marie-Thérèse Torti and Judy Penman sharing fifth at 16-over.
It was a trophy-filled week for Kyrinis, who also helped Team Ontario win the Katherine Helleur Trophy in the inter-provincial competition alongside Hayward and Samuel.
The victory also earned Kyrinis exemptions into the 2027 U.S. Senior Women’s Open, Canadian Women’s Amateur and Canadian Women’s Mid-Amateur, along with a 10-year exemption into the Canadian Women’s Senior Championship. She will next compete in the 2026 U.S. Senior Women’s Amateur at Portland Golf Club.
