John Dowdall comes from behind to win Greater Houston Senior Amateur

John Dowdall overcame a three-stroke deficit at the start of the final round

HOUSTON, TX (October 9, 2016) -- Defending champion Mike Booker had won two of the last three Greater Houston Senior Amateur's and he held the lead at the start of the final day. However, when the 36-hole leader struggled a door swung open and through it walked John Dowdall. Dowdall finished 4-under at Memorial Park Golf Club and thanks to a final round 2-under 70 he was able to produce a championship winning Sunday rally. The round began with bang as Dowdall, 2-under at the start of the day, birdied his first hole and then the 5th to reach 4-under. Dowdall's lone blemish of the day came via a bogey on the 10th. With the outcome still in doubt Dowdall was able to create the needed separation with one last birdie on No. 16. Booker, the 2013 and 2015 winner, began the day 5-under but struggled to a 4-over 76 and finished 1-under in second place. Hunter Nelson was third at 2-over while Titus Harris and Jimmy Burke were 3-over and tied for fourth.
